Katalox 1/2 cubic feet Timer back wash valve Iron Manganese Sulfur Water Filter. Katalox Light® is engineered with unique MnO2 coating technique on ZEOSORB®, providing it light weight, higher filtration surface, more service life and more reliable performance (filtration down to 3 m) than any other existing granular filter media. Katalox Light® is ANSI/NSF 61 Certified for drinking water applications and has met the ANSI/NSF 372 Lead free compliance. High concentration coating of MnO2 on the Katalox Light® surface (10%) is the biggest advantage compared to any similar product available in the market.
This makes the oxidation and co-precipitation of contaminants much more effective. For removal of very high concentration of contaminant it's recommended to use H2O2 as an oxidizer, which provides accelerated catalytic oxidation on the surface of the media. Conventional oxidizing agents like chlorine or potassium permanganate also could be used if required. As with any media, frequent and thorough back-washing is essential for long-term success with Katalox-LightT.
The specific frequency of regular back-washing is dependent on water quality and application rate. A daily backwash at the appropriate rate is required to remove precipitated contaminants from the filter bed. Suggested back-wash rate: 25-30 gpm/sq. To maintain and further augment the long-term performance and removal capacity of the media, an oxidant feed of some type is strongly recommended. This will maintain the media and enhance removal capacity.
Chlorine injection (options include chlorine, sodium hypochlorite, or calcium hypochlorite) immediately up stream of the filter feed is a simple way to meet this requirement. Other acceptable oxidants include air injection (oxygen is an oxidant), potassium permanganate, sodium permanganate, etc. Hydrogen peroxide is specifically prohibited for use as an oxidant.
